Frequently Asked Questions

Interested in finding out about your first experience with Crown City Dance? Below you'll find answers to our most frequently asked questions!

Frequently Asked Questions-

What should I expect for my first class?

Expect a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment where you'll learn fundamental techniques and movements at a comfortable pace. Your instructor will guide you through class step-by-step and provide encouragement along the way. Feel free to ask questions and be rest assured that this is a safe learning space!

What should I wear?

Wear what makes you comfortable! We have all types of students who dress for class depending on their purpose- from exercise wear all the way to dressing up for date night! The most important thing is to be comfortable and wear clothing that allows for free range of motion.

What should I bring?

  • Comfortable clothing you can move in

  • Good personal hygiene

  • A water bottle

  • Small towel

  • Appropriate dance shoes if you have them

  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Do I need special shoes before my first class?

Not necessarily.

Many beginners attend their first class in comfortable workout clothing and supportive shoes. Once you take classes more regularly, we can help you choose the appropriate footwear.

If you'd like to arrive fully prepared, see our recommended dance wear at the bottom of the page.

Can I take class if I've never danced before?

Absolutely.

Many of our students begin with no previous dance experience. Our instructors explain fundamentals, movement, and technique in a beginner-friendly way.

The goal of your first class is to learn, move, and have fun—not to be perfect.

Do I need a partner for ballroom classes?

No.

All our classes rotate partners throughout the lesson, and many students attend solo. We truly believe in an inclusive way of teaching as the more people you dance with, the better your dancing and "communication through movement" becomes. However, if you prefer not to rotate partners, please let your instructor know before class.

Am I too old to start dancing?

Not at all! We teach students ranging from ages 5 to 85 and welcome dancers of all ages and experience levels. Many of our students start as adults and discover a lifelong passion for dance. No matter what your age, dancing has been scientifically proven to benefit your physical and mental health!

How quickly will I improve?

Most students notice improvement within a month or two of consistent attendance.

For fastest progress, we recommend:

  • Scheduling weekly private lessons

  • Attending group classes regularly

  • Attending our weekly social dance nights (Thursdays @8:30pm)
